Sunday 29th saw our official opening of our new wing on the hall. It comprises a new kitchen and new
toilets including a disabled toilet. Anyone who hasn’t been to the hall for a while will find the old
toilets are now storage for tables and chairs.
The weather was kind so there was the possibility for younger members of the community to enjoy
the bouncy castle and the five-a-side football goals. Adults were welcomed with a glass of Pimm’s to
evoke the feel of summer.
After a short speech of thanks by our Chair Robin, everyone was able to tuck into a big spread of sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and strawberries washed down with tea and juice.
Everyone was welcomed to look round the new wing as well as the very nearly finished meeting
room/bar area.
It was great to have representative of some of the funders there including Vattenfall, who asked a
few of us to record content for their social media, and the Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation. It was
a chance to say thank you for their help and the other funders’ help in funding most of the works.
On the subject of thank-yous, thanks to all who helped get the hall ready for the opening. This
included the cleaning team led by Alan who cleaned both inside and out, all those who contributed
baking and everyone who worked in the kitchen and cleaned up afterwards. Thanks also to the team
who worked hard over the last few days to get the meeting room shipshape.
As well as thanking the funders, this is also a chance to thank Marc for project managing and for all
the hours he has put in personally, as well as all the workers who have assisted in creating a
welcoming and sustainable space for the community. Many thanks are also due to Rachael and her
helpers in winning all the funding we have needed to get to where we are now.
